Gillette Fusion POWER review

A new line of Gillette razors has hit stores recently, the Gillette Fusion™ Power, boasting five blades to give every man a better way to shave. Apparently the tri-bladed Mach3 (The Fusion’s predecessor) was not enough. The Fusion Power has added two additional blades to the front of the shaving cartridge, and one to the top for precise trimming. Add to that a AAA battery that emits “gentle micro-pulses,” and Gillette is sure you are in for an incredible shaving experience.

Now on to the review…

As far as design, and the bling factor to impress your friends, this thing has got it all. As if five blades weren’t enough, a chromed out handle and a futuristic design are sure to turn the heads of whoever may be in your bathroom.

I lathered up my face, and turned on the Fusion for the first time. I have been using the Mach3 Power for a while now, and I do enjoy the micro-pulses, although I am still up in the air as to whether they actually give me a better shave or not. The shave from the Fusion was good, cutting through thin as well as thick whisker patches, although I couldn’t tell much difference from that of a Mach3 with a fresh cartridge. Remember, a new razor has a new cartridge, and new cartridges always give the best shave.

The Gillette Fusion’s Precision Trimming Blade™ is what I was most looking forward to. This is a blade located on the top of the cartridge for shaping facial hair. The Mach3 has always been good at shaving large areas, but it stumbles when trying to shape a beard or sideburns. After a little frustration and lots of shaving cream I did get the Precision Trimming Blade to shape some facial hair, but it definitely left something to be desired. It clogged easily and despite its name, was not all that precise. Perhaps some more practice will yield a better result.

Conclusion
The Gillette Fusion Power is a great razor and gives a great shave; however I don’t see it as being very much better than the already great Mach3. It boasts a Precision Trimming Blade™ that isn’t that precise, and really, what is the difference between three and five blades? I believe the main reason for Gillette releasing a new razor is so they can sell you new blades. My Fusion didn’t come with any replacements, and I was shocked to see a pack of eight going for $27. After I wear the original cartridge out, I will be switching back to my Mach3, but I’ll leave my Gillette Fusion Power sitting out where everyone can see.
